Data Conversion
State how raw data was converted to descriptive data, and how missing values were handled
Describe how the study's raw data was converted to descriptive data, e. g. transcribing tapes or translating data. “Raw” data usually has to be processed before analysis, e.g. if missing values are coded as 0 and 9, these values must be excluded from any totals or averages. Audio tapes may need to be transcribed or even translated, video tapes may be coded for particular gestures or expressions, and computer outputs may need to be “cleaned”, sometimes by hand. In such cases, a thesis report will usually describe the data conversion done.
