Scope

Define the scope of the research clearly and its relevance

Defining the scope of a topic area is like drawing a boundary line around a territory, which defines what is inside and what is outside the area. State not only what your research is about, but also what it is NOT about. One way to do this is to mention what important others have done, then define your topic scope in relation to their work, e. g. if your topic is online grocery shopping distinguish this from other forms of online shopping and from e-commerce in general. It is surprising how often the scope is poorly stated by new authors, who consequently wander freely in areas of little relevance to their topic and annoy informed readers. Your scope description is what others use to assess if this research is relevant to them, or to a journal, conference, track or mini-track, of call for papers, so it is very important.
