Cover Important Work
In the literature review cover important work in the field, both old and new.
In any field there are key authors who have made a significant impact. One purpose of the literature review is to show that you are aware of key writers in the field. While you can disagree with currently accepted views, you must mention them to show you know and understand them. If you do not, it suggests you are ignorant of them. Covering important work in the field is like describing your position on a terrain relative to well known landmarks. To be complete a literature review must cover the important ideas in the field, bot hold and new.
